New Horizons Resources 36th Annual Invitational Golf Tournament

On Thursday September 26th, after two previous rain outs, New Horizons Resources held its 36th Annual Invitational Golf Tournament on what started as a beautiful sunny day at the Powelton Club in Newburgh, NY.

The tournament is a fundraiser and celebration of our mission to enable the people we support to live fulfilling lives in their local communities. This year that included greater participation by people receiving supports from NHR. This year, one of the player groups included a gentleman receiving supports from New Horizons. Other people receiving supports volunteered to help run fundraising games at designated holes on the course. Lunch for the volunteers was picked up and delivered by participants in NHR’s Day Hab Without Walls program.

Eighty-four golfers were able to join us for our third attempt to hold the tournament, which was followed by an evening reception and speaker. Bill McLout, whose sister was a long-time resident at NHR and passed away in 2018, spoke at dinner about his commitment to her and his confidence that NHR would take care of her and always meet her needs.

“I made a commitment to my mother on her deathbed that I would always be there to take care of Linda,” he said. “New Horizons enabled me to keep that promise and provided her with the care she needed at every stage of her life.”

Play at the tournament was slowed down in the middle of the afternoon when we got hit by a sudden downpour, but the foursomes would not be deterred and the majority returned to the course when the rain let up. Most were able to finish their game and the tournament was scored on 18 holes.

Prizes were awarded for first place, second place and third place winners. The first-place winner was TEG Federal Credit Union. The foursome players were Ron Flaherty, Mike Rostanzo, Scott McNally and Steve Mareau.

Second Place winners were from Relph Benefits. The players were Ian Walsh, Tom Burgess, Kyle Crosley and Paul Metcalf.

Third place winners were from Northland Heating and Cooling. The players were Nate Rose, Bill Leblanc, Anthony Milohnic and Max Lafalce.

The winner of the men’s longest drive was Max Lafalce and the women’s winner was Dana Capuano.
